You will seldom find the lack of English spoken in a country to be something that travellers love. To us it was a boon. We had far more physical interaction with people than we would have if everyone understood each other. There were hand and head gestures, attempts to communicate in whatever language was spoken, a connection between people trying to understand one another.
A lack of English among the Laotions we dealt with in the capital Vientiane was just one of the 11 things we love about the country and its capital.
