Memory Monday - The Cove - 9 October 2023

‘New place overwhelm’ is a wonderful feeling to experience. It's generally the outcome of travel privilege and wow, have we lived through that in the past 18 months.

When we visit new places, whether it's somewhere for sundowners, a scuba diving spot, a beach, a coffee shop or a temple, days and places can merge one into another. Do that for 384 days and the blur is real.

We counter that by keeping a diary, which @ingridlotze did for a large chunk of year 1, using Google Timeline to keep track of where we’ve been, taking lots of pics and videos.

The best for us however is having the other one there to serve as memory insurance.

A little spot called The Cove at the southern tip of Phuket isn’t really a cove, it's more of a bog standard coastline feature but that didn’t stop it being any less gorgeous.

Recalling the spot is made much easier because of the wonderful engagement we had with an older Australian couple, heading back home to see their grandkids.

We initially engaged over the concept of Stoicism and from there, the world was our oyster.

Two hours later we headed home feeling connected and grounded and satisfied with a Sunday morning very well spent.

Pictures and videos help. Google Timeline can pinpoint your location or the route you took but it's a feeling, an emotion that makes recall so much easier.

Talk and listen more, ask questions, be curious, suspend your judgements, be vulnerable. A few aspects of ourselves that we sharpened and that gave back to us in experiences and memories, in bountiful ways.

The blanding of the world

We took a walk down a side street of Seoul South Korea recently, which is in itself another whole article on its own as you don’t walk...
