Batu Caves, impressive for all the right reasons

While we don’t view ourselves as tourists, @ingridlotze and I are not immune to taking time out to see and experience the local sights and sounds.

One of our favourites around KL was Batu Caves, in Gombak, Selangor, one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside of India which is dedicated to Lord Murugan and is the focal point of the Tamil festival of Thaipusam in Malaysia.

It takes its name from the Malay word batu, meaning 'rock' and was originally known as Kapal Tanggang.

It’s an outstanding series of caves, one leading to another with a ceiling height of up to 100m and you can also see a 43m high statue of Lord Murugan, the second-tallest Lord Murugan statue in the world.

While there we were witness to a process, part of a Hindu ceremony which was not only wonderful to watch, but awesome to hear, with the drumming creating a magical resonance throughout the caves.

The blanding of the world

We took a walk down a side street of Seoul South Korea recently, which is in itself another whole article on its own as you don’t walk...
