You don’t have to be stuck to be in a rut and a rut doesn’t always feel stuck

Updated: 3 days ago

We took a walk down a back road in Seoul and found delight and awe at every turn. It turned out to be s delightful morning. The weird thing about being human is that we want (read need) both certainty and variety. So which one wins? Both. The best thing for our wellbeing is to mix it up. Let your brain’s drive for safety and predictability win sometimes, and other times let your need for novelty and the brain’s reward system take the lead.

Why do we need to shake things up a little? Because new experiences trigger dopamine release, which fuels exploration and learning. It supports creativity, openheartedness and open-mindedness (a whole other topic worth exploring).

When we get to a new city we set up a new routine because each place is different. Having set up our habit tracker for Seoul recently, we also know that “the wiggle wins.” {wiggle room for change + wiggle space for energy management + wiggling for movement}Suffice to say, even when you have a good habits framework in place and you’re keeping those streaks alive, it’s healthy to make space for variety and adventure too. It’s good for you.

Not all ruts feel stuck. Not all stuck is a rut.
