The Old Phuket Town Festival, celebrated alongside the Lunar New Year, was an explosion of colour, sound, and energy. A joyful parade wound its way through the streets of the old quarter, with participants aged from 3 to 83 bringing tradition to life. Among the live performances, we watched a group of four-year-olds confidently belt out their version of APT by ROSE and Bruno Mars, while the crowd - locals and travellers alike - cheered them on.
The air was thick with the aromas of street food sizzling away. Vendors dished up fragrant pad kra pao (stir-fry mince with garlic, chilies, and fragrant holy basil), crispy tod man pla (Thai fish cakes), moo ping (grilled pork skewers), and kanom krok (coconut pancakes) - a feast for the senses.
This year, we celebrate the Year of the Snake, symbolising wisdom, transformation, and resilience - qualities that resonate deeply with our journey. After more than two years away, Phuket welcomed us back like an old friend. Some places just feel like home. There’s something about its energy, its people, and its vibrant celebrations that always feels like home. What a joy to be here again.
