Living by design, not my default

As we approach the end of the year, our family is reaching a milestone: our daughter’s chemotherapy journey is coming to an end. It’s been a road filled with challenges, heartache, and moments of resilience we never knew we had. Along the way, we’ve learned that what you focus on matters most.

There’s a saying we live by in 7 T-shirtseEach: “Curating is as much about what you leave behind as it is about what you make room for.” This approach has helped us through this season, reminding us to let go of the things that weigh us down and focus instead on what brings value, joy, and hope to our lives.

In times like these, when life feels hard, curating our focus and creating what serves us is a necessity. We chose to spend our energy on the people, moments, and small victories that uplift us. This living by design—not by default means intentionally letting go of what doesn’t serve us, and this includes ideas, possessions, habits, and ways of thinking. Since starting our nomad work lifestyle, we have learned that freedom isn’t in holding on, it’s in letting go. As we begin to close this chapter, we’re more committed than ever to carry less and live more.

If there’s one takeaway we’d share, it’s this: In the face of uncertainty, choose what to focus on, filter out what doesn’t serve, and make room for what truly matters. Focus. Filter. Flourish. Freedom isn’t in holding on; it’s in letting go
