Glossy mag doesn’t mean glossy story

Whilst we've been featured in a glossy magazine, digital nomad life isn’t quite as glossy on the inside as it looks from the outside. It’s not all sunshine and Wi-Fi or beaches and cocktails—unless we've deliberately designed it that way. And even then, the price is working while the sunshine and water are calling.
Living without a fixed address means living without the built-in safety nets of routine, a known bed, or a quick call to a familiar friend down the road. What it offers instead is a constant practice in adaptability, resilience, and presence, with a generous dose of adventure and learning woven into the everyday. We’ve had to learn what “enough” looks like in every sense of the word, and that has given us clarity and purpose.
We’re still living on the same salary we had back in South Africa. We still pay rent, still meet deadlines, still wash the dishes. We just do it from different places, with a different rhythm and a different view. The work hasn’t changed, but the way we think about life has. We've learned to ask better questions about what matters, what we carry, and what we’re willing to let go of.
This lifestyle is more accessible than people think. It doesn’t require a trust fund or a start-up exit. It requires a job you can do remotely, some upfront admin (visas, paperwork, and clean criminal records), and a willingness to live inside the question: “What if life could be lighter and more intentional?”
We’ve chosen this path not because it’s easy, but because it’s alive. And being featured in Fairlady was never the goal, but if it gets more people curious about what’s possible, that’s a win. Thank you to Fairlady for the feature. We hope it inspires someone to explore a different way of being, not because it’s trendy, but because it’s possible to be more satisfied with life, even when the going is tough.
