A close encounter with a Giant Porcupine Pufferfish

Not something you see every day

What we see when we’re scuba diving never ceases to amaze us. Just when we think we’ve seen a lot, we are surprised by something we haven’t seen. Whether it's the critters of Lembeh or the dwellers on the walls of Bunaken.

This bit of excitement took place at Shark Point, which is close to Anemone Reef and the King Cruiser Wreck, about 28 kms east of Phuket.

This Giant Porcupine Pufferfish was exceptionally curious and came close enough to bump into the GoPro several times. Kept its beady eye on us for a long time and even took to swimming along with us. Being slow moving it kept pace with our finning, while looking totally relaxed.

Being buzzed by a Giant Porcupine Pufferfish was a treat. Look forward to more of those.
